And then there was light…

or Adventures of a Procrastinater.

Sometime last semester, one of the bulbs in my kitchen fixture blew. There are two of them in it. This is one of the few days I was full of energy and I actually went to change it. (My step ladder must have been unoccupied). I switched bulbs and it didn’t work. I tried the bulb somewhere else and that worked so I concluded something must have happened to the socket itself but since there was still on bulb in the fixture open and my apartment was a mess, I would delay on calling maintenance to come fix it. Especially since I had also recently strung up a nice little light on the other side of my room and I had my fluorescent desk light and the light in the oven hood thing.

Fine…I finally cleaned my apartment acceptably before I left for Scotland but didn’t call them to fix it while I was away.

Anywayz some time this semester the other bulb blew but my stepladder was otherwise engaged (things are on it and it’s stuffed in a corner) and since I still had the hood light and the other lights mentioned I didn’t worry. (Note: I did however change all 4 bulbs or was it 2 of the 4 when I realized the bathroom light was first dimmer and then gone). I wasn’t cooking much or doing work there as the table I had cleared to do work was very cluttered.

Skip to this week sometime. My other overhead light blew. ::grumble::
So I got out the stepladder and decided to change the kitchen overhead first.
I took out a 70 watt bulb and a 40 watt bulb. Remember, one of them wasn’t working. If it were I would’ve just taken two 40 watt bulbs. But I figured I’d try the non working one first. So I shook the bad one up a bit and screwed in the 40 watt bulb and then the 70 watt bulb. I then dragged my stepladded and put in anotehr 70 watt bulb in the hanging fixture closer to my bed.

And then I tested them out…LIGHT! they all worked even the one that had been misbehaving. Maybe it’s a good thing I didn’t call maintenance. They would have laughed at me. I don’t get it. I’m happy but I don’t get it.

Of course having light is a major thing and it makes my outlook on life brighter. Flash back last semester around this time when the same kitchen fixture was fixed funny and I couldn’t change the bulbs. It took me ages to clean up and call someone. I kept putting off the calling. Finally one day months later I called. And that evening I came home and put on the light and wooohooo I felt good and better. Then I didn’t even have the fixture above my bed, just the flurescent. So light was stunning especially as I live in a basement studio apartment with thickish curtains and venetian blinds and they’re always drawn. The lack of light just contributed to the cavern effect.

BUT LIGHT!!! Happy!
I wish I could add smileys here without weird code. I wonder…
