I have been lucky enough to witness some of the great sporting moments of recent years – Goran Ivanisevic’s emotional Wimbledon victory in 2001, England’s World Cup victory over Argentina in 2002, Cathy Freeman’s 400-metre triumph at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. But watching Lara carve the England attack to shreds a second time almost took the breath away

The highest individual score in Test cricket – batting’s blue-riband record – has only changed hands ten times since the first Test of all, 127 years ago in 1876-77. Here’s how the bar has been raised:
Lightning strikes twice for Lara
Ten years to the week since Lara trumped Garry Sobers to claim the highest Test score, he did it again in Antigua, this time grabbing the record back from another left-hander, Matthew Hayden.
Note from me: I can’t believe I was FOURTEEN when he broke Sir Gary Sobers’ record! Wow! I was young. Wait…Miss Dolly was still teaching at St George’s so clearly I was fourteen.

On a not so related note I didn’t go to the gym today because I was sick and if you don’t believe it, well I had the greatest impetus possible to get myself to the gym but …
Now I went to Northampton on Saturday and visited my favourite bookstore The Space-Crime Continuum and bought the latest volume of the Spiderwick Chronicles, Book 4 The Ironwood Tree by Tony diTerlizzi and Holly Black so I am very happy.
It’s a quintet of books for children about faeries and other such creatures.
After their parents’ divorce, three children and their mother move into this old house that belongs to a member of the family. In it, they find a secret room and a book with the secrets of faerie. From then on, the faerie try all methods possible to try to get the book away from the children.
It’s very good light children literature :-)
