Banking and partial to do list for going home!
Well, I’m going home as you may recall and I have lots of stuff to get done before I leave.
Oh and banks are strange. Last year when my bank started mailing copies of checks instead of the actual used checks back I messaged customer service on the online banking system where they said it costs now. I think they even said it costs for the copies. But I have a free checking account…oh well…
So I wandered into the branch and they said (can’t remember exactly) that it was a free checking account and there was never an option to get your checks back. I know banks change hands alot but…hey the lady who opened my account asked if I wanted them and I got them back for a year and change. So I wandered into Rachel’s lab and told her the new deal and so she called the customer service line and they said ah…see there are different rules for Massachusetts. And it’s free so we can’t charge you. We can’t get you back your checks that you missed that month but you can get your checks from now on. And she took our particulars and life was happy.
This is an old story but I figured backstory right.
This time, I wandered into the branch to ask about closing my account and if I would have to. She said some stuff and then went in and talked to people and basically said they’d give me some time with it but after seeing it’s not used and especially as I’m not in the area…I’d have to close it. They’d give me some time to get my stuff straightened out.
Considering my previous experience, I skipped the online customer service cuz I figure they deal with the big corporation instead of the massachusetts division. So called her and yay it’s all up to me and it’s okay and I can keep my account open! I have to give them my home address though. And I need new checks! wooohoooo! She checked her supervisor a few times too…
So, I can understand the online service not knowing all the details of the different states, but a branch in the state itself?? Oh well…
Things I’ve done
- Cancelled my cellular service with T-Mobile
- Cancelled my cable tv and internet service with Comcast, and am due a dollar and change back…
- Cancelled my renter’s insurance
- Cancelled my electricity
- Forwarded my magazine subscriptions (Cooking Light and Vegetarian Times) to my sky box
- Called my bank where I have a checking account
- Found out about shipping with the post office
Things I haven’t done and this list is bigger or more intensive if not actually longer.
- Give forwarding address to insurance people
- Give home address to bank people
- Cancel my Columbiahouse stuff
- Bought boxes
- Start packing
- Get rid of some of my stuff, ie try to sell *some*
- Deal with my credit cards
- Called Salvation Army to schedule a pickup day
- Setup mail forwarding
I know there’s other stuff but…

Alas, your list reminds me of the things I haven’t done before my move yet as well. I shall pretend I haven’t read it. Heh.

Comment by Jess — Saturday 15th, May 2004 @ 7:42 pm

and there are people allergic to nuts!
Comment by Lily — Saturday 15th, May 2004 @ 7:47 pm
I’m English. I like what I like. Anyway people are allergic to grass and flowers but we still grow them. People get asthma from diesel fumes but we still drive cars and trucks. Woops!! I’m getting serious. :) :dragon3:

Lily, Banks are evil, Nuts in Brownies are pure evil. However, if you stuck me in front of both, sooner or later, I would have both… :( I have a huge weakness for Brownies: peroid! …but not Banks *evil*… Oh, good luck on your trip home and hope you keep posting after.

You lot got a downer on nuts or something? I’m not changing my mind. I like extremely large bars of Cadbury’s whole nut. Thing is you’re probably thinking peanuts. Baaah!! Cheap crap. I was thinking more along the lines of crushed walnuts. Nuts in rice??? Who came up with that? Mind you, I was chatting to the guy in my local Chinese take-away a couple of weeks ago and he (he is Chinese) was telling me that he has tomato sauce (that’s ketchup to you) on his rice???? In fact he puts it on everything!!!
Comment by Stuart — Sunday 16th, May 2004 @ 5:30 pm
I think asian dishes have peanuts sometimes.
I do not enjoy walnuts or pecans AT ALL. I’m not a fan of nuts in general – although I do like almonds and pistachios occasionally. I like peanut butter as well, but not the chunky kind. Bleh.
Comment by Jess — Sunday 16th, May 2004 @ 6:20 pm
@Stuart some people put nuts and almonds and stuff in rice at home…
nuts in cadbury’s is good…if only they had a a nut version of bourneville!
@Jess: i like cashews and pistachios
Comment by Lily — Sunday 16th, May 2004 @ 7:08 pm
Oh yeah – forgot about cashews. Those are good too. :D
Comment by Jess — Sunday 16th, May 2004 @ 9:21 pm
hehe…have you ever walked through canefields looking for one ripe cashew just to roast…
i have
and i’ve never even had the roasted cashew
i wonder if it’s the same thing
Comment by Lily — Sunday 16th, May 2004 @ 9:40 pm
@Jess – Yes there’s a Cantonese dish we get here called Gung Po (or sometimes Kung Po) which has nuts though they are cashews. I like them too. :) Also Peshwari Naan (Indian) which is a naan bread with nuts in. Don’t know what sort.
@Lily – Cadbury’s are a bit boring with their Bournville. They used to do a bar called “Old Jamaica” which was a dark chocolate with rum and raisin. Very nice. :) (There’s some info for you on your last Bomb comment)
Comment by Stuart — Sunday 16th, May 2004 @ 10:15 pm
hahahaha!
nice…rum…lol
i couldn’t have it :)
Comment by Lily — Sunday 16th, May 2004 @ 10:49 pm
@Lily (re #22) – Nope. I have no idea where to even find growing cashews, lol. (re #24) You can’t have rum? By choice or…? Can you have vanilla?
@Stuart (re #23) – We have Kung Pao here – is that the same?
Comment by Jess — Monday 17th, May 2004 @ 10:29 am
Hey Jess, by religion
and re Vanilla – yeah that pure or artificial extract…*sigh*
it’s so much stress…sometimes i forget
if you use a vanilla bean?
or vanilla essence instead of extract..
Comment by Lily — Monday 17th, May 2004 @ 10:36 am
My aunt is of the baha’i faith and they don’t use vanilla extract either. I guess they make it (extract) with alcohol or something? Must be tough to find sweets you can safely eat. :-O
Comment by Jess — Monday 17th, May 2004 @ 10:50 am
and icecream!!!
i’d never known, do baha’i's not consume alcohol either?
my friend sent me christmas cookies…and went thru the trouble/stress of making ‘em without…
and my other friends remember (or remember to tell me)
*sigh*
Comment by Lily — Monday 17th, May 2004 @ 11:07 am
Yeah baha’i followers (at least my aunt’s sect) don’t consume alcohol or caffeine or drugs of any kind. Not sure about medications (for health purposes), however.
Comment by Jess — Monday 17th, May 2004 @ 2:55 pm
ah! we have caffeine!
and i think allowances of stuff for medical purposes
they coat alot of medication with pig by producs tho! :-(
Comment by Lily — Monday 17th, May 2004 @ 2:58 pm
I have a vegan acquaintance who told me about that (the gelatin coating, I think?). I had NO idea that was made of such stuff. :X
Comment by Jess — Monday 17th, May 2004 @ 3:01 pm
