i just upgraded
and well…i’ll put back my style sheet and index soon…
but i’m not sure what’s up with the polls…
maybe i’ll go through the instructions for it again to see if i overwrote anything
oh well
i guess it’s time to go exploring this install…
something is weird in the admin section tho, the wordpress logo isn’t aligned right or something..

I like the greenish accent color a lot. S’purdy. :D

lol
this style sheet and index page are part of the default install
so if you made yourself a wordpress blog and didn’t change anything, it would look like this :-)
i actually like it too, nice and simple and not too busy :-D

Somedayyyyyyyyy maybe. :D Is there a lot of fiddling to do with wordpress? I like it when the comments pop up – is that something wordpress can do? Or does that require separate programming?
Comment by Jess — Friday 28th, May 2004 @ 3:45 pm
well i think you can just do the initial install (well..some preparation steps first) and then leave it as is without much fiddling.
there is an option for comments to popup…not sure where i change that in the file yet, but i think it’s pretty easy!
i think you just have to uncomment some of the html code
maybe?
hey…wj don’t know where you live!

@Lily ~ You said, “hey…wj don’t know where you live!” – I’ve been searching for the context for this everywhere and can’t find it. What are ya talkin about? LOL!
Comment by Jess — Friday 28th, May 2004 @ 4:15 pm
Lily, there are probably two things that are causing your techie problem, one will be with the index.php the ‘get-line’ for the css sheet.
Look for this:
and change it for this:
And check to see that the permissions on the index file are set correctly, they worked when I had them set at 666. No, no devils involved, at least I don’t think so. Hope that helps.
Comment by Laika — Friday 28th, May 2004 @ 4:21 pm
@Jess: if you go to http://www.webjones.net and look at the link to your blog..it’ll say jess, where? :-P
@Laika: well, the problem actually is that the poll i installed either doesn’t work or needs some tweaking to work and my old style sheet and old index file thus gives some errors because it’s trying to call the poll and not getting the right stuff…or not getting stuff at all :-(
look: http://lilandra.com/blog/index-mine.php
so ihave to wander around and fix the poll or just eliminate the poll call from the index file :-(

Ohh hehe – I didn’t know he had linked to me! *misses details*

I too upgraded few days ago, 1.2 seems neat. :)
Comment by Vitaliy — Friday 28th, May 2004 @ 9:14 pm
Hey Lily. Haven’t I seen this style before somewhere? :) First off as Laika was saying 666 is the right chmod. If you do all the files you want to modify including your CSS, index, comments, htaccess and popups you can then edit them in the templates section of WP which is a lot easier and quicker than doing it on your PC and having to upload them. You can also view your site quickly to see how any changes have gone. I had a look at your “index-mine.php” and the poll is calling the “my-hacks.php” file. Have you uploaded it and have you activated it? It’s in the “Miscellaneous” section of “Options”. The “Comment Moderation” is in the “Discussion” section of “Options”. You need to click the “common spam words” link and copy/paste the word list into the box. This and the link limiter set at 5 would have stopped the 2 spams I’m aware of. Thinking of your poll do you really want to go with a hack now you have the plugin options. I don’t know if a plugin for polls has been done yet but they are being produced quick and fast. You might be as well leaving the hacks out and waiting a while. The plugins are a lot easier. If you need help just email me. You’ve got the addy somewhere as if you can’t remember it. :)
@Jess – Popup comments is commented out by default in the header of the “index.php” file or whatever you may have renamed it to.
Comment by Stuart — Friday 28th, May 2004 @ 10:02 pm
@Stuart: i don’t understand, why do i have to 666 my files?
anywayz, i don’t think there’s a poll plugin yet and my-hacks is there and enabled because it was there before
so i think it’s possible i overwrote another file that had changes which were necessary for the poll so i’ll just have to go through those instructions again…
when/if a poll plugin comes in i’ll change it i guess…
@Jess: well, i’ve been trying to see what’s different…so many entries…can’t keep up…so i look at the layout!
hey vitaliy, what plugins are you using?
Comment by Lily — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 1:00 am
You don’t have to 666 all of them. Just the ones you get to edit regularly. If you do the 666 it allows WP to access them which means that whilst you are logged in to your WP you can edit them in “Templates”. That means you don’t have to edit them on your PC and then upload them. It also means that when you’ve edited something and saved it you can click on the “View Site” button and see the results straight away. It just saves a lot of time. As for your polls, I’ve never used the hack so I can’t really help. Did you keep the original instructions? If not you’ll have to go to the wiki and find the hack again.

@Lily – I live in Madison, Mississippi.
@Jess – I needed some reason to put the words “Sinister Midget” somewhere on my homepage.
Comment by webjones — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 9:27 am
@Stuart – Good to know, thanks! :D
@Lily – Far more observant than I. ;)
@wj – Who needs a reason? ;)
Comment by Jess — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 12:06 pm
@Stuart: oh yeah, i edit them in the templates section, but i don’t like doing that regularly because i can’t save as something else…you know…backup the file i originally had before i changed it, or rename the file..
i did save it…to my old computer which hasn’t seen electricity in almost a week :-P
@everybody: still hungry…
Comment by Lily — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 3:59 pm
You upgraded? Still looks geener than ever… How has 1.2 improved over from what you had before? How much hassle did you have doing it: i.e. loosing your stylesheet and data?
Comment by Thomasso — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 5:49 pm
Hey you’ve got your style sheet up. :) You’re getting there then? ;) Any dragons yet? :dragon3:
Comment by Stuart — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 7:35 pm
Nope! :(
Comment by Stuart — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 7:36 pm
@Jess – You’re right. :-)
Comment by webjones — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 11:08 pm
@Thomasso: well, i didn’t lose my style sheet and index but i did seem to lose the smilies i allowed and disallowed, and um, my polling function. but otherwise it’s okay
@Stuart: well, i just didn’t feel like putting back my style sheet until i’d figured out the poll but i don’t have time to figure out the poll so i just put it back…it wasn’t lost…
didn’t realize the smiley problem tho…will have to fix it sometime soon…
Comment by Lily — Saturday 29th, May 2004 @ 11:42 pm
