Building my PC: Choosing a Processor
Well, now that mom is getting my built computer…yay!.
So, I need to choose a processor.
Should I choose the motherboard first or the processor first?
I don’t know.
I know I’m going AMD 64 bit.
I also know I don’t need dual-core.
And I’m not spending more than US$200 on my mom’s processor that will hopefully last her a good while.
So, which should it be?? Socket 754 or Socket 939.
So, using one of those elimination search things, I found these (yes, at Newegg. I’m just using them for prices and reviews). Wish me luck, k?
Here they are:
Socket 939 Processors:
- AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3200BPBOX – Retail for US$154
- Well, there was a refurbished one…
Socket 754 Processors:
- AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1600MHz HT Socket 754 E6 Processor Model ADA3000BXBOX – Retail for US$129
- AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1600MHz HT Socket 754 Processor Model ADA3200BXBOX – Retail for US$154
- AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle 1600MHz HT Socket 754 Processor Model ADA3200AEP4AX – OEM for US$122
- AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle 1600MHz HT Socket 754 Processor Model ADA3200AXBOX – Retail for US$139
- AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Newcastle 1600MHz HT Socket 754 Processor Model ADA3400AEP4AX – OEM for US$145
- AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Newcastle 1600MHz HT Socket 754 Processor Model ADA3400AXBOX – Retail for US$154
- AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Newcastle 1600MHz HT Socket 754 Processor Model ADA3400AEP4AR – OEM for US$140
Oh, I think some of these processors are the same (some OEM and some retail) but no time to figure out for sure if that’s the case. Because to my uneducated eye, it looks like there’s two OEMs of one kind..and I’m confused. So I’m probably just sleepy.
I am leaning to Socket 939 but who knows!!!
If I choose that one, I could buy it here for TT$1400 I think which is about US$220. Not sure if it will take US$70 to ship it and such!
Maybe mommy doesn’t need a processor that costs more than US$100.
But…but…but…
