Computer Shopping Update
Well, we finally got dad to check on his bookgrant. And it seems, he can use his accummulated bookgrant to buy one laptop every three years and one desktop every three years. So, he thinks I can build my pc at my leisure and buy one of each now. And since he’s retiring in a little over three years, we can replace/refresh then too.
So, now on to buy a desktop and a laptop.
Oh, he says, it doesn’t have to be as small a screen as mine.
Oh, and it doesn’t have to be a mac.
Since, for the most part this laptop will be used by my dad, I will go with what he wants. So he wants to run things like S-PLUS and Minitab. And he wants a 14inch or thereabouts screen and whatever else I think necessary.
So, what should I buy.
Whose desktop should I buy.
And what monitor!
I was thinking of budgeting about $1200 each. I’m not sure if that’d include the price of a nice flat screen/panel monitor. And extended warranties? For the laptop, most likely I will try; but for the desktop? Who knows.
We seem to be stuck at HP. But who else should I look at? I guess I’ll figure that out.
