Modding my phone

I recently bought a Motorola V360 phone in Guyana.
I think it is usually GSM 850/1800/1900 or GSM 900/1800/1900.
Well, this was both unlocked and quad-band.

It’s okay.
I don’t *hate* Motorola anymore and I like it and got it at a decent price.

And since it’s quad-band, I can use it with Digicel in Trinidad & Tobago (850/1900, my main cell phone), bMobile in Trinidad & Tobago (1800…which I may or may not keep around…it is cheaper to use it for landlines but the quality seems to suck very much and also…I can send text messages to my brother with this phone) and when I wander back to Guyana and use GT&T (900). I have a heard a rumour of Digicel moving to Guyana also. And my Digicel SIM was able to roam in Guyana (well receive calls…I couldn’t figure out what codes to dial to make calls but Chennette has sent and received texts with her Digicel T&T).

Well though this was happily unlocked…they were like phones from China or somewhere close by. The languages on my phone are English, Chinese (?) and Bahasa Melayu (Malaysian language?). It also had loads of Web Sessions on it (profiles that stored the MMS and GPRS and WAP settings). These were editable but not deletable…I couldn’t edit the name. This posed a problem as I needed two profiles for Digicel but only had one free space. I could’ve just edited one and left the name as is but I wanted a better solution to delete these profiles.

So I googled and found out how to mod my phone.
It required me spending time with a windows laptop.
*sigh*
I’m trying to get moto4lin working but haven’t been successful yet.

Anywayz I found instructions on seem editing here.
However his instuctions to install the software just wouldn’t seem to work so I searched again and found THESE! and it worked and then I wandered back to the first link for instructions on deleting Web Sessions.

And yay that worked.

And since I was already bonding with dad’s ASUS laptop I also changed the Motorola display on the outer LCD to say my name…yes…VANITY but I figured why not if I was already there.

Now, I would like to try adding language packs. I’m just not sure how or what to do. I think it may require flashing but I am not so sure. I would like I guess English, French and Spanish. Arabic would be nice. Actually UK English would be nice. I found one that would do but I think it’s for the RAZR and I’m not sure how this works across different phones. Someone said for the V360 one could use L7 (or was it L6? I think the SLVR but not sure)’s language packs.

But I’ve left that for another day.

  1. Do mine, do mine…my HP, while it draws admiring glances and comments in airports and meetings, does not have blue tooth. Fix my motorola so it doesn’t say Digicel any more!!!!

  2. LOL
I would but I can’t do it with bluetooth.
You need to do it with the USB cable which is why I told you before you left to get a USB cable for it!!!

Not just Digicel…the annoying red stuff.

  3. what?? how annoying. i can’t go to the place to buy a cable before i leave Guyana, so i guess it’s TT$350 somewhere…

  4. well on motorola’s online store it is about US$30
    maybe cheaper on ebay
