Ramadhan 2

Today was also Republic Day in Trinidad & Tobago. Beacause it’s a Sunday, tomorrow is a public holiday! Yay! NO SCHOOL!

For Iftar (breaking of the fast at sunset), I had water and a slice of box cake. I resisted mom’s trying to push dates on me because it was the Sunnah. IBNtv Channel 8 had whatshisname (yes, I know *his* name), break his fast on tv with us.

Then we went to pray Maghrib (sunset prayer) and afterwards we had dinner.

What did we have for dinner? Baked chicken pieces, fry rice and avocado and water.

I think the only reason I managed this fast was that I slept until about 1pm. I guess that’s what happens when you go to sleep at 7am instead of as soon as you pray after Suhur. And then slept in the afternoon still…I’m one sleepy lady!

Oh, I also treated myself to Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream and cake! :)

Haven’t prayed Isha (night prayer) and Tarawih (special Ramadhan prayer) yet…

Unfiled

I’m doing the unthinkable.
For a long time now, I’ve hated my categories. They’re not right. There’s too much of them. They never suit what I post.

So, I just deleted them ALL and so most of my posts will say Unfiled.
I’m slowly creating some that hopefully are more descriptive and suitable for my blog and going through…TWO YEARS or so of posts and properly categorizing (and privating) them.

Am I a glutton for punishment or what???

Ramadhan Mubarak and TV

Assalamu ‘Alaykum and Ramadhan Mubarak!

Our Ramadhan started last night after sunset (as it was the first sunset/night/day after 30 days of the previous month) and we had Tarawih salaah (special prayers during Ramadhan that are done after the last prayer of the night). I didn’t go to the masjid but I prayed at home. I’m praying that I can make most of this Ramadhan.

This morning we woke up and had Suhur (morning meal before dawn, last time to eat before the fast starts) and didn’t listen to “Our Respected Leader” on the radio (I can’t remember his name…oh well…) Instead West Indies is playing Australia in a cricket one day final in Malaysia. Australia was batting and while we were eating we got one wicket so their score when I left the table was 185-5 after about 43 overs.

Last night IBNtv Channel 8 (Islamic Broadcasting Channel) said they would be starting programming at 4:15 am so we switched to see what was up. Well at first they were showing Sura Luqman as is usual. After 5 minutes we switched it back and they were showing one Hadith about Suhur/Sehri. This lasted about 10 minutes so we went back to watching cricket.

After a bit we switched again and this time they were running a slide show of Hadith and then I think Qur’anic ayahs while playing recitations. Hmm…I know they said they were doing no live broadcasts during Ramadhan but I was all sure we might’ve at least had an intro or something.

Oh well, the nice thing is that from 5am – 6am every day they’re going to have different people reciting a Juz of Qur’an so they should finish by the end of the month. I wonder if I’ll be awake or sleeping. I wonder who the reciters will be. (I was going to update as to whom recited but I missed the beginning (like a couple minutes) and they didn’t say afterwards!!!)

For Suhur, I had two tuna melt sandwiches (solid white tuna, whole wheat bread, lettuce, cheddar), less than half a (gros michel?) banana and lots of water!!!

Ok…and am theming or at least intending to theme…
