Cancelling Classes

I’m not sure why my dad and I bothered tryingn to have classes this week.

When dad got the news on Tuesday he just didn’t have his afternoon full time class and decided to come straight home. One of the grad students/assistant lecturers called all his M.Sc. students to say no class in the evening.

We decided mom would leave on Wednesday and we’d come on Thursday thus I would cancel my Thursday afternoon class and Saturday morning class.

I contacted the admin assistant that I’d need someone to inform the Thursday students for me (she’s the AA for the Saturday students but I had no idea who to tell about Thursday) and not to worry about the Saturday students as I’d be seeing them Wednesday.

So, we were trying to make something of the week so we wouldn’t have too much lost time to make up as Monday was already a public holiday.

Dad thought he had class 3 – 4 pm. Turns out it was 2 – 3 pm and the students didn’t tell him until 2:30 pm when they’d already all left. So, one mix-up which dad takes total responsibility for. What annoyed him was that some of the students wandered by at about quarter past and saw him and didn’t say anything. Do they think he’s the kind of delinquent lecturer that would not come to class and not tell them anything? They should know better. I’m not saying these lecturers don’t exist. They do but…

When I reached to work just after 5 pm I saw two students leaving. One of them did a double take and asked…what class? no class? It seems either my communication with the AA was unclear or she misunderstood and put up a notice to cancel the Wednesday class. A few of them were already in the carpark leaving. They’d even called some of their friends and told them turn back! I explained to these students about the mixup and we decided ok! no class.

I wandered up to the room anywayz to apologise to any students there or any who came. There were about four of them who were like aha! good thing we waited. I told them my problems and we decided okay no class. The two students I met came to class and after my re-confirming the decision, we pulled out my class list and cell phones and started calling students cancelling this class (some of them didn’t seem to be coming but I didn’t ask) and Saturday’s class.

*sigh*
We should’ve just cancelled our Wednesday classes and left with mom.

Oh well. We tried!

  1. [...] Then, I slept from 11 am all the way to 3 pm and then woke up and rushed around to get ready for my infamous accidentally cancelled class. I was supposed to be getting a taxi but I think he forgot or was late so thankfully dad was on his way back early as his infamous class didn’t happen. [...]
