I just installed Xubuntu Edgy on my powerbook…
A fresh install.
First of, yaboot didn’t pick up on my OSX installation and I’m really not sure why! :-(
The splash screen when Xubuntu is loading is horrible…colours bleeding or something. I thought it might mean my GUI mightn’t be nice either but it was fine.
And I’m not sure what to do about my wireless. I shall try again I guess.
And there were very detailed instructions to configure my keyboard and I’m pretty sure I messed that up.
I forgot to test my trackpad.

Yes, since we got faced with an earlier ‘Id than we expected…we ordered pizza! while we continue the cooking for tomorrow.
It should reach in…45 mins to an hour.
I still need to eat in the interim.
I used to think I wanted little x’s on the tab like Camino and Safari but now I got them in Firefox I don’t like it. I hate having my hand travel through the tabs to close them as opposed to being stationary in one corner.
I hate how it doesn’t squish a lot of tabs in one line before extending (and tab mix creates a new line of tabs).
But what I really hate is how because of these x’s, I keep accidentally closing off a tab when I really want to switch to it. I don’t want to have to look and be careful that I’m not clicking on the invisible x to close the tab.
So…I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT!
It seems the sighting is confirmed or at least GIT taking it as confirmed means we might take it as confirmed even tho it might be out of the realms of possibility of being seen (visibility curves! see moonsighting.com. I really wish we could talk to someone in Suriname…I’ve got numbers online…they should just call and see if anybody’s there…who speaks English.
I’ll have to break my fast.
Dad doesn’t think he can contact the rest of the Jamat to have ‘Id prayers today so tomorrow still…we hope that’s okay.
I’m just going to go to sleep and when I wake up then I’ll “break my fast”.
I made basboosa. It’s a semolina (and sugar! and yoghurt) cake soaked in syrup. Those almonds are supposed to be pressed in the centre of each slice. They’re also supposed to be whole.
It tastes good!
For some reason, in grad school, all the arab people in the MSA called it harisa and that’s what I call it but…the Lebanese cookbook calls it…basboosa and calls harisa some kind of spice mix so if anybody can provide some edification, please do!
Is it Harissa? Is it Basboosa? Well according to this page (search for harissa), that’s what Alexandrians call it and they put more butter and sugar in it!
Well, according to the sunnah of the prophet, we need to see the new moon for each new month to start.
Since ‘Id-ul-Fitr is the first day of the new month, we all eagerly await sighting reports…Saudi always sees it early (or…some say when it’s impossible to see it), ISNA finally gave up and said they’re going by calculation and announce when it is early o-clock.
We go by sighting…in Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana, Caribbean…
Actually my sister called to say they heard of a sighting in Suriname and GIT (Guyana Islamic Trust?) is taking it and I think they’re having ‘Id on Monday.
We have no sighting report and don’t know about this Suriname sighting, and the astronomer (who is also muslim) says that it’s impossible to see the moon (well there’s a tiny little windows)…so…hmm…
Oh well…as far as I know we’re having ‘Id in Trinidad on Tuesday, the public holiday so one more day of fast and tonight should’ve been the last Tarawih prayer.
