Well, it is ‘Id-ul-Adha (festival of the sacrifice) today.

It’s kind of bitter sweet because we were supposed to be making Hajj this year (and basically this is what Hajj commemorates).

But anywayz, I did kurbani this year for the first time!!! Since this is the eid that commemorates the sacrifice, not only does one do sacrifice if one makes Hajj but also if one is able, one makes sacrifice at home too.

Well this year in our Jamaat we have no animal sacrificing (first time I can remember) so we bought shares in Guyana. Generally when you have a share, you take a third for you, a third for friends and a third for the poor. Well, our share in Guyana will go all for the poor. Thank goodness! Because i don’t want to listen to people making me eat beef because it’s kurbani and calling me hindu because i don’t really like beef; i mean, how would you like to be called muslim if you don’t eat pork?? I mean, it doesn’t have to be beef, does it? It can be lamb! I eat that!

So…today is December 31st…

Hey all! I know some of you have been bored to death with my “Should I buy a DSLR or shouldn’t I?” dilemma. It’s been about two months now. But I promise we’ve almost reached the end.

But, it would be nice if anybody reading this would be willing to chime in with some advice. Please? Please?

I’ve been without my Canon S400 as it is being repaired by Canon. In its absence I’ve been craving a new camera. If I had it with me I could probably ignore the new toys greediness.

My sister has a Nikon Coolpix 7900 and takes food and travel pictures with it. She likes her camera but now feels the limitations. I’ve been on a campaign to get her to get a DSLR (with which I can play) as I didn’t use my camera much or enough and am probably not ready for a DSLR and am scared I would be wasting money. I don’t think she would be. So, I spent the last few months telling her why she needed a DSLR every time she said something…you know I nagged. (My last campaign for her to get an apple laptop…well that resulted in my having a powerbook…*sigh*)

She finally decided yes! DSLR!

And I’ve been doing research because she hasn’t had time (I shouldn’t have time either…like now I should be working).
I also told her if we were both to get DSLRs we should probably consider getting the same brand so we can switch lenses and stuff if we ever want to (we don’t live together but we’re only an hour plane ride away and she’s always back home anywayz…and well we’re not serious yet so….it’ll work…(Mom resented the implication that we would be spinster aunts living together with our cats…She says of course Chennette will get married. (It’s nice to note that she’s given up on me!!!))
But then I told her, don’t worry about me. I shouldn’t buy one.

Then tonight I told her…I think I can get a DSLR. I think I will make use of it.

And she said…well we should get the same brand. But it pretty much comes down to the same model, a Nikon d50 (there are still some available on bhphotovideo and amazon i think) or the canon rebel XTi.

Hmm.
Well, according to Santa Claus in Timehri, it’s not cold like where you come from!

Today, I made the best pizza I ever made. I think it even tops the time I made tomato sauce from scratch or roasted red peppers or used portabello mushroom caps as crusts (these may have been two distinct times and not three).

I was craving pizza and if you remember Chennette’s post on the pizza at Hotel Normandie:

well I was craving that pizza specifically. So, I finally dragged myself off to make pizza.

I needed a quick crust recipe as my pizza book is living in Saudi Arabia. A search of allrecipes.com found me this, which I modified slightly.

So, I made three different pizzas (pictures suck! when, Chennette comes home tonight, maybe she’ll take decent pictures of the slices. I made a grilled chicken and mozzarella pizza, grilled eggplant and feta and mozzarella pizza and a mushroom and cheddar and brie pizza. The crust was awesome and thin and crispy and the pizzas weren’t too heavy. I am amazed! :)

I logged in to Canon’s repair website and they say it’s fixed.
Woohoo!
Free too.

And it should reach somewhere in four days (when they eventually ship it).

So, next week, my camera reaches big sister’s in-laws. How do I get it, now?

Also, I am slowly, but surely working on Chennette and she’s craving that DSLR!
Okay, so we’re trying to plan a vacation and that helps! :-)

But also, if I get my camera back soon, I think I’m willing to buy a new one regardless, but not a DSLR yet but a super-zoomer, a Canon PowerShot S3 IS.

/me craves camera!

1. Learn to drive
2. Learn Portuguese by April
3. Get Canon S3 IS
4. EDIT: Learn Arabic by December

Preferably by….April? March?

so far.

At least that’s what the e-mail said…they’re repairing it for free unless they find out it’s water damage or blah blah blah.

Maybe I don’t need a new camera. So, now it’s just a matter of getting it back to me and…um…learning to not dream of SLRs.

My sister should just get one.
