Cricket World Cup: Seeding or why West Indies is D2
Well, I didn’t understand *why* there is seeding.
It seems Pakistan was seeded first in our group and if they qualified for Super Eight they’d've been D1 and we were seeded second so D2. Ireland qualified instead of Pakistan so they got slotted into D1.
It’s so frustrating; I was looking forward to an Ireland match, one I’m less emotionally invested in. However I shall be watching the *last* match of the Super Eight so hopefully most of the qualifiers for the semi-finals should be determined already (unless West Indies leaves it up to the last minute and edge of your seat worry *sigh*).
But I figured it out…I’m sure this is written somewhere if I cared to search/read.
It’s so people can buy tickets.
If you wanted to see West Indies play, you’d buy the first round tickets. And if you wanted to take a chance and buy tickets ahead of time for Super Eight and make sure you got West Indies, if they qualified, then you’d get tickets for the matches their seed will play. Once you qualify you get your seed, and not the other matches so you won’t be gambling (hoping to have bought the right tickets *if* they qualify).
I’m guessing this only worked for the 8 seeded times of course. If you weren’t one of the seeded teams, I guess you’d've just bought tickets to watch cricket, any cricket or not have bought tickets since you didn’t expect to get in…and just buy them when/if you qualify?
Oh well.
I’ll see West Indies. That’s good, right?
PS Bangladesh qualified for the Super Eight! HEHEHEHEHE

ok, that makes sense, but see what if people DIDN’T KNOW THAT? As in the LOCs didn’t advertise/inform enough? Which is what I think may have happened. Look, going to see the last of the Super 8s – all the cameras should be there, maybe you’ll get your 15 minutes of fame;-)

Yeah, my students didn’t know!
So, yeah, I wasn’t reading up about how things worked but they know about matches and when and blah blah so my whole class missed it too?
Big Sis missed it.
Her Husband missed it.
!!!
But I have a suspicion your old school friend might not have missed it…else why is he coming to Barbados?

Nope, he must have missed it – he’s not going to be in Barbados for the Windies matches. But then again, he has work and stuff. Must ask him.

Is this why it was announced sometime last night that tomorrow’s match is between Ireland and Australia and not WI and Australia?
