Kiss Chocolate Truffle Cake

Kiss is a bakery in Trinidad (& Tobago).
Maybe bakery isn’t the right term.
Commerical bread maker/supplier.

When I was young, I remember them doing loaves of bread and cakes (like your hostess cupcakes?).

Then there would be there mass-produced birthday cakes sold in the grocery too.

A little later on, you could order specific cakes from the factory.

Then they started delving into specialty cakes (for the holidays I think).

They changed their chocolate cupcake recipe a few times. I never did like the change. But still, I preferred it to the US Hostess cakes.

Then they started having booths in malls and such with slices of their specialty cakes.

Their cupcakes started coming out in different flavours (not just chocolate or lemon).

One day during the last year, I went to a booth and was looking and thinking of buying a slice of something…for me…for dad…can’t recall who…

And the lady behind the counter told me that they ALL HAD ALCOHOL!
I was crushed.
Okay, you might wonder why she would volunteer this information out of the blue especially as I hadn’t even started talking to her. Well, I’m muslim and wearing hijab and…if I’m following my religion, no alcohol at all.

I mean, WHY!
(All their specialty cakes mind you).

So, I had to decide to learn to bake myself…
*sniffle*
Okay, I can bake if I want to.
I just don’t usually waste time baking CAKES.
Cakes are bought or from boxes…unless it’s an interesting cake, interesting enough for me to want to try it out.

*sigh*
I wish I knew my Kiss baking company history better. This is very boring prose.
Wikipedia just has a stub with a link to a non-existant website.
I could’ve waited until later and interrogated my parents.

The point of this story is that one day, I was in the grocery and the refrigerated section had slices. Most of them were clearly marked with a sticker saying “Contains Alcohol”. But there were a couple with “Alcohol-Free” tags (Black Forest and Chocolate Truffle).

So, I said my prayers and bought them.
They’re pretty:
