So well written and thanks for bringing back all the memories....the mixing of the juice especially brought back my memories of the muaddhin( one who does the call to prayer) when I was small at the same masjid.... and your grand father was Imam also.....well Olie Chacha used to make one bucket of juice with one grapefruit or so we thought then...not sure if it was just rumored but when we got there he had already squeezed the fresh grapefruits which used to grow in the Masjid yard. My grandparents as you know lived next door to the Masjid....
Yes Chennette it was Fair and Square where we got the enamel plates and later on plastic ones at the neighbouring village store.
Two years ago we did have a catered for Iftar .... this is also termed Fatur or Aftari....the morning meal is called ...either Suhoor or Sehri.
Wehave been using styrofoam plates and cups for a while now as people cannot wash so many wares anymore....
Thanks for bringing back all the memories...

Oh. I thought it was St Mary's or Marabella. This very old store on the second floor of an L shaped building. Where we bought a TV?
Who knows.

Heh. THey too noisy.
Weekend iftars are probably more crowded.

Fair and Square - mom shopped in Chaguanas...at least that's my memory
- I miss communal too, but it's hard when you're working and barely make it home in time to break fast. So many more people work outside the village now, children are in school and lessons...I noticed even on brother in law's village masjid in Guyana it's less people than before - but your niece and nephew make up for the noise.
